Crime incidents in Worcester saw an overall decrease last week, for the third week in a row, according to data from SpotCrime, which collects data from police agencies and validated sources. Incidents fell to 621 for the week of December 24, down from 635 the week before.
The overall decrease in crime reports was led by theft and assault. Theft fell to 63 incidents last week, from 95 the week before. Assault went from 107 to 91.
There were three reported robbery incidents last week. That represents a decrease from five incidents the previous week.
Among the few types of offenses that saw an uptick last week were reports of burglary which went from 24 to 27 and vandalism rose from 18 to 21.
There were 382 reports of "other" crimes, an increase of 28 from the previous week. SpotCrime's broad "other" category includes a variety of offenses like fraud, trespassing, public disturbance and traffic violations. SpotCrime data also indicates that 34 arrests were made last week, up from 32 arrests the week before.
Regarding when crime most often occurs, Sundays, Saturdays and Fridays witnessed the most reported crimes last week. The largest decrease from the previous week occurred on Tuesdays, Mondays and Thursdays. Incidents on Sundays and Saturdays went up. Midday, early afternoon and evening saw the most crime last week.
