Crime incidents in Worcester saw an overall decrease last week, after a previous rise, according to data from SpotCrime, which collects data from police agencies and validated sources. Incidents fell to 633 for the week of Jan. 7, down from 638 the week before.

The overall decrease in crime incidents was led by vandalism and assault. Vandalism fell to 13 incidents last week, from 32 the week before. The number of assaults went from 99 to 87.

Among the few types of offenses that saw an uptick last week, reports of theft went from 50 to 74. Incidents of robbery rose from one to 10, and burglary went up from 19 to 23.

There were 386 reports of "other" crimes, a decrease of eight from the previous week. SpotCrime's broad "other" category includes a variety of offenses like fraud, trespassing, public disturbance and traffic violations. SpotCrime data also indicates that 40 arrests were made last week, down from 43 arrests the week before.

Regarding when crime most often occurs, Fridays, Thursdays and Saturdays saw the most reported crimes last week. The largest decrease from the previous week occurred on Mondays, Tuesdays and Sundays, while incidents on Fridays, Saturdays and Thursdays went up. Late morning, late afternoon and early afternoon continue to see the most crime incidents.
