Crime incidents in Worcester saw an overall decrease last week, for the third week in a row, according to data from SpotCrime, which collects data from police agencies and validated sources. Incidents fell to 571 for the week of Jan. 21, down from 593 the week before.

The offenses that decreased the most were burglary and vandalism. Burglary fell to 13 incidents last week, from 27 the week before. Vandalism went from 24 to 20.

There were three reported robbery incidents last week. That represents a decrease from four incidents the previous week. There were also 59 incidents of theft, down from 61 the week before.

Among the few types of offenses that saw an uptick last week, reports of assault went from 75 to 86.

There were 390 reports of "other" crimes, a decrease of 12 from the previous week. SpotCrime's broad "other" category includes a variety of offenses like fraud, trespassing, public disturbance and traffic violations. Of those incidents, 46 involved arrests, such as for drug possession, up from 42 reported arrests the week before.

Regarding day and time factors, Fridays, Thursdays and Saturdays saw the most reported crimes last week. The largest decrease from the previous week occurred on Tuesdays, Mondays and Wednesdays, while incidents on Sundays and Saturdays went up. Late afternoon, evening and early afternoon saw the most crime last week.
