Tipster Laura wrote in to ask us about the fate of the Arco gas station at Fell and Divisadero streets, which has been closed for the past few weeks.

With the station (1175 Fell St.) surrounded by hurricane fencing and stacked with construction vehicles, Laura noted that the closure "looks permanent."

The good news: it's not. The Arco station, long established as one of the cheapest places to buy gas in San Francisco, is set to return this week.

Michael Abendhoff, a media affairs spokesperson for BP (which operates Arco) said in an email that "there were minor upgrades planned for the location." According to city permits filed earlier this month, these include updated signage.

"We hope to resume operations by the weekend," Abendhoff added, "assuming the weather cooperates."

The Arco station closure isn't to be confused with the slated development for the adjacent 400 Divisadero property, which would involve removing the Shell gas station and Touchless Car Wash to build mixed-use residential and commercial units. That project, which has faced opposition from some neighbors, continues to navigate the permitting process.
