Crime incidents in Worcester saw an overall increase last week, after a previous decline, according to data from SpotCrime, which collects data from police agencies and validated sources. Incidents rose to 593 for the week of Jan. 28, up from 572 the week before.

The overall increase in crime incidents was led by theft and burglary. Theft rose to 100 incidents last week, from 59 the week before. Burglary went from 13 to 14.

There were 21 reported vandalism incidents last week. That represents a steady state from the previous week.

Among the few types of offenses that saw a downturn last week, reports of assault went from 86 to 83.

There were 375 reports of "other" crimes, a decrease of 15 from the previous week. SpotCrime's broad "other" category includes a variety of offenses like fraud, trespassing, public disturbance and traffic violations. Of those incidents, 35 involved arrests, such as for drug possession, down from 46 reported arrests the week before.

Regarding when most crimes are committed, Mondays, Tuesdays and Sundays produced the most crime incidents last week. The largest increase from the previous week occurred on Mondays, Tuesdays and Sundays, while incidents on Thursdays, Fridays and Wednesdays went down. Late morning, evening and late afternoon saw the most crime last week.
