The number of crime incidents in Worcester saw an overall increase last week, after a previous decline, according to data from SpotCrime, which collects data from police agencies and validated sources. Incidents rose to 591 for the week of Feb. 18, up from 567 the week before.

The specific offense that increased the most was assault, which rose to 104 incidents last week, from 89 the week before.

There were four reported robbery incidents last week. That represents a steady state from the previous week.

Among the few types of offenses that saw a downturn last week, reports of vandalism went from 18 to six, and theft fell from 64 to 60.

There were 405 reports of "other" crimes, an increase of 24 from the previous week. SpotCrime's broad "other" category includes a variety of offenses like fraud, trespassing, public disturbance and traffic violations. Of those incidents, 43 involved arrests, such as for drug possession, up from 40 reported arrests the week before.

Regarding day and time factors, Saturday, Thursday and Tuesday saw the most reported crimes last week. The largest increase from the previous week occurred on Tuesday, Saturday and Thursday, while incidents on Sunday, Friday and Wednesday went down. Comparing times of day, early afternoon, late afternoon and evening continue to see the most crime incidents.
