Here's a selection of crimes that have occurred in Hayes Valley and the Western Addition since our last roundup in early February. All reports were provided by SFPD, unless otherwise noted.

Man steals woman's phone at midday 

On February 23, a 30-year-old man stole a 34-year-old woman's cell phone on the 1000 block of Fell Street (between Pierce and Scott) around 11:45 a.m. The man pushed the woman to the ground, then took her phone before running away. The woman was uninjured.

Woman suffers head injury from hit-and-run

On February 19, a woman was struck by the driver of an unknown vehicle while walking in a crosswalk at Turk and Scott streets. The victim, 69, struck her head and was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries around 11 a.m. The suspect fled the scene, and no further information was available.

Driver carjacked at gunpoint

A carjacking took place around 7 p.m. on February 12, on the 200 block of Larch Way (between Laguna and Buchanan streets). The victim, a 26-year-old man, was behind the wheel when the suspect, a 20-year-old man, opened his passenger door, brandishing a gun. The suspect demanded the victim exit the car, and after the victim complied, the suspect drove away. The victim was uninjured. 

Four suspected car thieves arrested 

SFPD officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle with no license plates at Fern and Franklin streets on February 5 at 3:50 a.m. An officer confirmed that the car was stolen, and the vehicle's occupants, a 36-year-old woman and three men aged 23 to 34, were all placed under arrest.

After argument, Muni passenger discovers he is bleeding

After boarding a Muni bus at Fillmore St. and Geary Blvd. at 1 p.m. on February 3, a man, 39, was informed by another passenger that he was bleeding. After being hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, the man told police that he had gotten into an argument with another man, believed to be between 35 and 42 years old, and that the man had cut him with an unknown sharp object. No further details on the suspect or the location of the attack were available.


Northern Station monthly community meeting

Residents interested in learning more about crime and safety in the district are invited to attend SFPD Northern Station's community meetings, held at the station (1125 Fillmore St.) at 6 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month. The next meeting is next Tuesday, 

Hayes Valley public safety meeting

The Hayes Valley Neighborhood Association invites residents to its monthly public safety meeting on Monday, March 4 at 7 p.m. at the Korean American Center (745 Buchanan St.) During this meeting, the latest property crime statistics for 2018 and 2019 will be presented. Experts will also discuss the steps being taken to reduce car break-ins in the neighborhood, and what neighbors can do if they catch someone breaking into their home.
