The number of crime incidents in Sunnyvale saw an overall decrease last week, after a previous rise, according to data from SpotCrime, which collects data from police agencies and validated sources. Incidents fell to 235 for the week of March 4, down from 244 the week before.
The specific offenses that decreased the most were burglary and vandalism. Burglary fell to 14 incidents last week, from 18 the week before. Vandalism went from 11 to nine.
Among the few types of offenses that saw an uptick last week, reports of assault went from nine to 14, and theft rose from 33 to 36.
There were 162 reports of "other" crimes, a decrease of 11 from the previous week. SpotCrime's broad "other" category includes a variety of offenses like fraud, trespassing, public disturbance and traffic violations. Of those incidents, 13 involved arrests, such as for drug possession, up from 10 reported arrests the week before.
As far as where crime is concentrated in the city, Washington, East Murphy and Lakewood had the most reported incidents last week. Washington and Lakewood were at the top of the list the previous week as well.
West Murphy saw the largest decline. Crime reports in Lakewood also fell, after increasing the week before, and incidents in Ortega are down considerably as well.
Regarding when most crimes are committed, Mondays, Saturdays and Wednesdays witnessed the most crime incidents last week. The largest decrease from the previous week occurred on Thursdays and Fridays, while incidents on Saturdays and Mondays went up. Comparing times of day, evening, early afternoon and late afternoon saw the most crime last week.
