The number of crime incidents in Worcester saw an overall decrease last week, for the second week in a row, according to data from SpotCrime, which collects data from police agencies and validated sources. Incidents fell to 541 for the week of March 4, down from 566 the week before.

The specific offenses that decreased the most were theft and assault. Theft fell to 57 incidents last week, from 62 the week before. Assault went from 89 to 85. Reports of theft have continued to fall for the last five weeks, while assault incidents have been decreasing for the last two weeks.

There were three reported robbery incidents last week. That represents a decrease from six incidents the previous week.

Among the few types of offenses that saw an uptick last week, reports of vandalism went from 11 to 22, and burglary rose from eight to nine.

There were 365 reports of "other" crimes, a decrease of 25 from the previous week. SpotCrime's broad "other" category includes a variety of offenses like fraud, trespassing, public disturbance and traffic violations. Of those incidents, 34 involved arrests, such as for drug possession, down from 55 reported arrests the week before.

Regarding day and time factors, Thursdays, Saturdays and Mondays produced the most crime incidents last week. The largest decrease from the previous week occurred on Tuesdays, Sundays and Fridays, while incidents on Thursdays, Saturdays and Wednesdays went up. Comparing times of day, early afternoon, late afternoon and late morning saw the most crime last week.
