The number of crime incidents in Worcester saw an overall decrease last week, after a previous rise, according to data from SpotCrime, which collects data from police agencies and validated sources. Incidents fell to 564 for the week of February 25, down from 594 the week before.

The specific offenses that decreased the most were assault and burglary. Assault fell to 89 incidents last week, from 104 the week before. Burglary went from 12 to eight.

There were 61 reported theft incidents last week. That represents a decrease from 63 incidents the previous week.

Among the few types of offenses that saw an uptick last week, reports of vandalism went from six to 10, and robbery rose from four to six.

There were 390 reports of "other" crimes, a decrease of 15 from the previous week. SpotCrime's broad "other" category includes a variety of offenses like fraud, trespassing, public disturbance and traffic violations. Of those incidents, 55 involved arrests, such as for drug possession, up from 43 reported arrests the week before.

Regarding when crime most often occurs, Fridays, Mondays and Tuesdays produced the most reported crimes last week. The largest decrease from the previous week occurred on Saturdays, Thursdays and Tuesdays, while incidents on Sundays, Mondays and Wednesdays went up. Comparing times of day, early afternoon, late morning and late night saw the most crime last week.
