Divisadero neighbors have a fresh piece of street art to enjoy. A new mural is currently going up in the parking lot of Touchless Car Wash, at Divisadero and Fell.
The mural, a series of repeated text that reads, "NO MORE MEAN PEOPLE," is being installed by Mike "Spike" Krouse, also known as the proprietor of Madrone, Pop's, and Bar Fluxus.
The work is being commissioned by SF Beautiful and ArtOnSiteSF, Krouse said.
We caught up with Krouse on Wednesday afternoon as he was installing the mural. He said it will only take eight or so total days to complete, but since he's only allowed to work on it when the car wash's parking lot is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, the installation will probably last a month.
If Krouse's work is familiar, it's likely because you've run across it before, either at Madrone or elsewhere around the city.
Pending city approvals, Touchless is eventually set to be demolished for a mixed-use housing and retail development called 400 Divisadero. After years of planning, the project's developer held a final community meeting last month, and will soon submit a proposal to the Planning Department.
But final approvals and construction are likely months, if not years, away, meaning that locals will be able to enjoy Krouse's new mural for a long time to come.
