Seeking a forever home: 7 dogs to adopt now in and around Colorado SpringsPhotos: Petfinder

Interested in adopting a pet — or just gazing at some delightful doggies? There are dozens of great dogs up for adoption at animal shelters in and around Colorado Springs.

Animal shelters work hard to care for unhoused pets and connect them to loving homes. Hoodline used data from Petfinder to power this roundup of dogs currently available for adoption.

Paco, chihuahua mix

Paco is a male chihuahua mix currently housed at All Breed Rescue & Training.

Paco gets along well with cats and dogs. He is already vaccinated, and he's been neutered. His ideal forever home would be a kid-free environment.

From Paco's caretaker:

Ain't I cute?? I am a smart, independent boy who enjoys humans from a distance. I have always lived with other dogs and would love to join a new pack who will help me feel safe and secure. I love to lounge outside in the sun and I am not a big fan of being picked up or cuddled. I am, however, a big fan of food! General socialization notes I came from a hoarding situation, so I am still unsure around humans. My foster moms have helped me come out of my shell but I still have a way to go to gain confidence and trust.

Bailey, Labrador retriever mix

Bailey is a female Labrador retriever mix being kept at All Breed Rescue & Training.

Bailey likes to socialize — she'll get along great with your other dogs.

From Bailey's caretaker:

Don't you want somebody to love? I am a sweet girl who needs some time to warm up to new people. I also need a canine sibling or two to help me feel secure. I can be super silly and I love to snuggle under blankets! I get anxious sometimes, but when I'm happy I smile! I love to play with other dogs. In fact, I need to live with another dog so I don't get scared. I have not met any cats. I like older children who are patient with me and will respect my space. Favorite toys? Anything that squeaks! I also love to chew on bones. Ideal forever home? I need a quiet home where there is not a lot of constant activity. I can get anxious, so I definitely need another dog or two in the home. I need a family who is patient and who will help me to earn their trust. Once you are in my 'circle' and my personality will really shine and I will love you forever!

Darla, pit bull terrier mix

Darla is a female pit bull terrier mix being kept at All Breed Rescue & Training.

Darla loves being around people, and she'd be the perfect addition to a home with kids. Her vaccinations are up to date, and she's been spayed.

No other pets, please: Darla is looking for both a cat- and dog-free forever home.

From Darla's caretaker:

Looking for love I am a super sweet girl who really needs a family. I, along with my 8 puppies, was given up by my owner after they were born. All of my boys now have families to call their own, and I would love one as well! I am cuddly and playful and can be super silly! I can be shy at first, and sudden movements or loud noises will make me jump. But I am really smart and extremely motivated with treats, and I am quickly regaining my trust in people. general socialization notes I love to play and go for walks but I can be a bit excited and pull when I'm on a leash. I love car rides and snuggling on the couch with my humans. I am leery of other dogs but may be ok with a slow, structured introduction. I sometimes let out a little growl when I meet someone new but soon, my whole body wags and I just want to crawl into their lap!

Poppy, mastiff mix

Poppy is a female mastiff mix staying at All Breed Rescue & Training.

Poppy loves other dogs and cats. Her vaccinations are already up to date, and she's been spayed. She's already house trained.

Poppy's ideal forever home would be a kid-free environment.

From Poppy's caretaker:

Looking for a hiking buddy? I'm your girl! I am ready to help you explore the outdoors! I am a bit shy when I first meet someone new or go to a new place that is indoors, but outside it's game on! I am shy at first but once I get to know you and trust you, I become very attached. I know basic commands like sit, wait, flat, roll over, and I walk very nicely on leash. I love cuddles once I get all of my energy out, and I will sometimes sneak into bed with my mom.

Copper, Australian cattle dog mix

Copper is a male Australian cattle dog mix being cared for at All Breed Rescue & Training.

Copper loves other dogs and cats. He has all of his shots, and he's been neutered. He has mastered his house training etiquette.

Copper's ideal forever home would be a kid-free environment.

From Copper's caretaker:

Seeking a place for my bed...so I can lay in it all day! I am shy at first, and loud noises scare me. Once I get to know you, I love attention! Because I have been shuffled around, I am very protective of my humans - sometimes too much. I need a family that will be with me forever so I can learn to trust that they are there to stay. I love to herd people, especially small ones! I have lived with other dogs and I would be ok as long as I get a slow introduction. Because I resource guard my humans, I would need an experienced owner if other dogs are in the home. I think cats are a lot of fun to chase! I don't want to hurt them, I am just very curious about them.

Percy, Siberian husky mix

Percy is a male Siberian husky mix being cared for at All Breed Rescue & Training.

Percy is a social animal — he's happy to keep company with kids, cats and dogs. He has all of his shots, and he's been neutered.

From Percy's caretaker:

Can we play? I am a sweet, loving, funny boy with lots of energy! I love to run and play, and I am gradually learning that if I bring a toy back when you throw it, you will keep playing with me! Once I decide that you are mine, I always want to be near you - preferably on your lap. I am curious about everything and I love to be in the center of whatever is going on. I get along with other dogs with a slow, supervised introduction. I love running and wrestling with my foster brother now that I have gotten to know him! I have had some issues with resource guarding, but I am getting much better about sharing. I have been around cats at my sitter's house and they don't really interest me. I picked up a lot of bad habits early on, but I am very smart and I learn quickly. My foster mom has figured out that I respond very well to treats - and I take them ever so gently from your hand! I want you to be happy with me, so I just need someone who is willing to spend time with me, teaching me how to be the best dog I can be.
