Interested in adopting a pet — or just looking at some lovable kitties near you? There are dozens of great cats up for adoption at animal shelters in and around Minneapolis.

Animal shelters work hard to care for unhoused pets and connect them to loving homes. Hoodline used data from Petfinder to power this roundup of cats currently available for adoption.

Sophie, domestic shorthair

Sophie is a female domestic shorthair cat being kept at Pet Haven Inc. of Minnesota.

Sophie is a social butterfly — she'll get along great with other cats. She has all of her shots, and she's been spayed.

Sophie is a special needs pet, so please inquire about her specific care requirements.

From Sophie's caretaker:

Sophie is a busy and enjoyable young lady looking for her forever home! Sophie was born in 2015. She would love a home with another sweet cat or two. She would do equally well as an only cat, though! She loves toys and chases them through the house. Sophie had a rough start and has some special needs. She came to PH as a kitten with an eye / respiratory infection. Because of her young age it hit her hard but with the help of an ophthalmologist her eye rarely flares up! Her tear duct is blocked so her tears run down her face and you will need to wipe the fur by her eye every day or two to keep it clean. Sophie has sneezing events periodically due to irritation to her nasal membranes. Otherwise, she is a happy and friendly girl who will be a delightful addition to some lucky household.

Emma, domestic shorthair and tabby mix

Emma is a female domestic shorthair and tabby mix staying at Pet Haven Inc. of Minnesota.

Emma is a social animal — she loves other cats, dogs and children. She has all of her shots, and she's been spayed. Have no fear: she is already house trained.

From Emma's caretaker:

Emma is an 6 month old playful little girl looking for a family of her own! Emma is a lovely lady that enjoys sitting in a lap or next to her people. Like all young cats she is very curious and likes to keep tabs on what her humans are doing - especially what they are eating! She likes zooming around the house with her feline roommates, climbing the cat trees, watching the birds, and laying in a "cat pile" with her foster siblings. Emma lives with 4 cat siblings (age range 6 months to 2 years), a 3 year old German Shepard mix, 2 adult humans, and a 12 year old human brother. Emma is a very social gal and must go to a home with at least one other friendly, playful cat. She seeks out her foster siblings for playtime and cuddles and would be very lonely as an only cat. She is a good fit for just about any living situation, so long as she can have a buddy to keep her company.

Jupiter, domestic shorthair

Jupiter is a female domestic shorthair cat currently residing at Pet Haven Inc. of Minnesota.

Jupiter will get along great with your other cats and dogs. She's already vaccinated, and she's been spayed.

Jupiter is looking for kid-free household.

From Jupiter's caretaker:

Jupiter is a sweet, timid, 6-year-old cat looking for her forever home! Jupiter is very nervous first transitioning to new place and will need a very patient adopter to slowly ease her from into her new home. However, she is so loving and hungry for attention when she feels safe with her human. Her head-butts and snuggles are so sweet when she's ready to be loved on! Jupiter is happiest when she's either cuddling in her human's lap or lounging on soft surfaces. She likes to be left alone in her own space, but will happily come out when she knows you want to pet her nicely. Currently, Jupiter lives as an only cat in her foster home. She has lived well among cats and dogs before, but is also content as the only kitty. The adopter should pay attention to Jupiter's eating/drinking patterns to ensure she's getting proper nutrition during the transition. Because Jupiter is easily frightened and does not like being picked up she would do best in a home without small children.

Piper, domestic shorthair and torbie mix

Piper is a female domestic shorthair and torbie mix being kept at Pet Haven Inc. of Minnesota.

Her vaccinations are up to date, and she's been spayed.

Piper's ideal forever home would be environment without other dogs, cats or children.

From Piper's caretaker:

Piper is a lovely, dilute tortie looking for her forever home! [Tortie is short for tortoiseshell-tabby.] Piper came to Pet Haven stressed from life in a shelter -- she crawled into her litter box, hid her head and wouldn't eat. Her only hope was to be come into rescue and have a patient home that let her come out of her shell on her own terms. For her first several weeks, she preferred to snuggle into a nest of blankets under a large desk and slowly came to learn that people can be kind and show her the love she deserves. Since then: "Pet me, pet me, pet me!" - Piper, constantly! She has blossomed into a lovely and interactive kitty that is ready to find a forever home that is willing to let her be herself.

Love is a female domestic shorthair cat currently residing at Pet Haven Inc. of Minnesota.

Her vaccinations are already up to date, and she's been spayed.

From Love's caretaker:

Love is a three-year-old, affectionate cat looking for her forever home! Sweet, social, and gentle, Love loves her people as much as her alone time. She is learning to be a lap cat and is fully content to sit next to you on the couch. She loves being pet and will show her appreciation by giving you a big purr. In her free time, Love loves to survey her kingdom from the top of her cat tree. When she’s not chasing her laser pointer, she’s watching the birds and squirrels out at the bird feeder. Love would be happiest as an only cat. She may be okay cohabiting with an older, mellow cat.

Rusty, domestic shorthair and tabby mix

Rusty is a male domestic shorthair and tabby mix staying at Pet Haven Inc. of Minnesota.

Rusty will get along great with your kids. He is vaccinated, and he's been neutered. He has mastered his house training etiquette.

No other cats, please: Rusty is looking for a cat-free home.

From Rusty's caretaker:

Rusty is a sweet, mild-mannered cat looking for his forever home! This dude has a short tail that makes him look even more adorable! Rusty hates all things fish which is very peculiar for a cat. He loves chicken based food, likes eating pumpkin and also occasionally asks for oats! He loves cuddles and enjoys nuzzling against people's faces and that's his favorite way to wake his people up in the morning. Strings and shoelaces are engaging toys for Rusty and he keeps himself busy playing with them. He also enjoys playing chase with his humans. He spends a lot of his daytime either napping on his cat tree or cackling at squirrels and rabbits through the window wishing he could go out and chase them. He also loves wheat grass and can be found with his face in it rather frequently! He's an easy-going, healthy, young cat that would make a good pet for anybody with very little or no previous experience.
