We took a data-driven look at the question, using Yelp to analyze which eateries have been in the limelight this month.
To find out who made the list, we looked at Phoenix businesses on Yelp by category and counted how many reviews each received. Rather than compare them based on number of reviews alone, we calculated a percentage increase in reviews over the past month, and tracked businesses that consistently increase their volume of reviews to identify statistically significant outliers compared to past performance.

This Italian bakery is trending compared to other businesses categorized as "Italian" on Yelp.
Citywide, Italian spots saw a median 2% increase in new reviews over the past month, but The Sicilian Baker saw a massive 291.7% increase, maintaining a strong four-star rating throughout.
It's not the only trending outlier in the Italian category: Rott n' Grapes RoRo has seen a 9.3% increase in reviews.

MOD Pizza
Whether or not you've been hearing buzz about Camelback East's MOD Pizza, the spot to score pizza and fast food is a hot topic according to Yelp review data.
While businesses categorized as "Pizza" on Yelp saw a median 1.6% increase in new reviews over the past month, MOD Pizza bagged a 7.7% increase in new reviews within that time frame, maintaining a superior four-star rating. It significantly outperformed the previous month by gaining 5.5 times more reviews than expected based on its past performance.
There's more that's trending on Phoenix's pizza scene: Forno 301 has seen a 4.5% increase in reviews.

Moreover, on a month-to-month basis, Tea Stop's review count increased by more than 500%.
In addition to its wide selection of milk, espresso and fruit teas, Tea Stop offers smoothies, yogurt drinks and snacks. Over the past month, it's maintained an excellent 4.5-star rating among Yelpers.
