Gas prices in Miami Beach soar above those in other city neighborhoods, even though Miami’s average price at the pump remains below the nation’s as a whole.
The average cost of a gallon of regular unleaded on May 7 in Miami was $2.79, according to the price-tracking app GasBuddy. That compares favorably with the U.S. average price of $2.88. But the price has been rising for a month: drivers in the city paid an average of $2.78 per gallon on April 7.
The price does represent slight relief from this date a year ago, when the average price at the pump in Miami was $2.83 and the national average was $2.81.
Yet in Miami Beach, the most current GasBuddy numbers show an average price of $3.52 per gallon — that’s more than 25% above the city average.
But if you drive around, you can still find deals.
The lowest price in and around the neighborhood is $2.89, available at the Marathon at 875 71st St. Meanwhile, Shell at 337 71st St. is asking $2.99 per gallon.
Other Miami Beach stations may be selling gas above the average price but have also earned above-average ratings on GasBuddy. They include:
Marathon, 945 5th St., $3.59 per gallon. With a convenience store and offering pay-at-the-pump, the station has earned a 3.5 rating out of 5, and 48 reviews by GasBuddy users. User HeloDave recently wrote “Easy to get in and out of the station.”
Shell, 508 Arthur Godfrey Road, $3.59 per gallon. The 4.4 rating is based on 144 reviews, which include “good customer service” and “full service at an extra cost.”
