We took a data-driven look at the question, using Yelp to analyze which eateries have been getting outsized notice this month.
To find out who made the list, we looked at San Jose businesses on Yelp by category and counted how many reviews each received. Rather than compare them based on number of reviews alone, we calculated a percentage increase in reviews over the past month, and tracked businesses that consistently increased their volume of reviews to identify statistically significant outliers compared to past performance.

Anchors Fish & Chips And Seafood Grill
Open since May, this seafood spot is trending compared to other businesses categorized as "Seafood" on Yelp.
Citywide, seafood spots saw a median 1.4% increase in new reviews over the past month, but Anchors Fish & Chips and Seafood Grill saw a staggering 153.6% increase, maintaining a convincing four-star rating throughout.
It's not the only trending outlier in the seafood category: SJ Crawfish has seen a 5.7% increase in reviews.
Located at 1111 Meridian Ave. in Willow Glen, Anchors Fish & Chips and Seafood Grill offers lobster rolls, cheesy crab bread, oyster dishes and more.
Sushi Kan
Whether or not you've been hearing buzz about North San Jose's Sushi Kan, the sushi bar and Japanese spot is a hot topic according to Yelp review data.
While businesses categorized as "Sushi Bars" on Yelp saw a median 1.5% increase in new reviews over the past month, Sushi Kan bagged an 8.3% increase in new reviews within that time frame, maintaining a sound four-star rating. It significantly outperformed the previous month by gaining 1.9 times more reviews than expected based on its past performance.
Open at 1305 N. First St. since 2012, Sushi Kan offers a variety of Japanese cuisine, with entrees like bulgogi, barbecue short ribs and spicy pork belly. An array of specialty rolls, including the Pink Panda with shrimp tempura, cream cheese, avocado, fried crab and salmon, are also on offer.
Super Duper Burgers
West San Jose's Super Duper Burgers is also making waves. Open since 2018 at 5399 Prospect Road, the traditional American spot, which offers burgers and more, has seen a 6.6% bump in new reviews over the last month, compared to a median review increase of 1.4% for all businesses tagged "American (Traditional)" on Yelp.
There's more than one hot spot trending in San Jose's traditional American category: Chili's has seen a 3.5% increase in reviews.
Super Duper Burgers offers breakfast items like egg sandwiches, donuts and orange juice as well as veggie burgers, chicken sandwiches and organic shakes. Over the past month, it's maintained a superior four-star rating among Yelpers.
