Hungry? A new neighborhood Korean spot has you covered. The new addition to Civic Center, called HoM Korean Kitchen, is located at 154 McAllister St. (at Hyde).
This is the fourth Bay Area location for HoM; the others are in Redwood City, Santa Cruz and San Jose. Owner Konan Pi told Palo Alto Online that he calls his restaurants HoM because "I want people to feel like they're in my home and I'm cooking for them. I wouldn't serve you anything I wouldn't eat myself."
HoM operates on a build-your-own model. Diners select a base like rice or salad, then choose a protein (like organic tofu, pork, chicken and beef) and three banchan (bean sprouts, cucumbers, radish, potato and, of course, kimchi). Sides include soups, salads and veggies.
With a 4.5-star rating out of eight reviews on Yelp so far, HoM has already made a good impression.
John S., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on June 26, wrote, "Though fast food, each entree is made to order. All the ingredients they have are freshly made and organic. They have a zillion gluten-free options."
Yelper Dawn B. wrote, "Quick to-order Korean fusion food! They have you pick the base, protein and banchan. It's basically a Korean version of Moe's, which provides a nice, quick order on a tight lunch break."
Head on over to check it out: HoM Korean Kitchen is open from 10 a.m.–8 p.m. daily.
