The number of crime incidents in Worcester saw an overall decrease last week after a previous rise, according to data from SpotCrime, which collects data from police agencies and validated sources. Incidents fell to 876 reports for the week of June 24, down from 908 reports the week before.

The specific offenses that decreased the most were theft and vandalism. Reports of theft fell to 92 incidents last week, down from 100 the week before. Reports of vandalism dropped from 27 to 24, following the downward trend of the last two weeks.

There were 27 reported burglary incidents last week. That represents a steady state from the previous week.

Among the few types of offenses that saw an uptick last week, reports of assault rose from 134 to 143.

There were 588 reports of "other" crimes, a decrease of 28 from the previous week. SpotCrime's broad "other" category includes a variety of offenses like fraud, trespassing, public disturbance and traffic violations. Of those incidents, 51 involved arrests, such as for drug possession, down from 67 reported arrests the week before.

Regarding day and time factors, Saturday, Monday and Wednesday had the most reported crimes last week. The largest decrease from the previous week occurred on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday, while reports of incidents on Monday and Saturday went up. Comparing times of day, evening, late night and early afternoon saw the most crime last week.
