A wine bar and restaurant featuring New American and Italian cuisine has debuted in the neighborhood. Located at 1030 Torrey Pines Road, Suite B, in La Jolla, the newcomer is called Candor by Giuseppe, and it represents a homecoming for its namesake chef.

The eatery takes its moniker from chef and restaurateur Giuseppe Ciuffa and his efforts to focus on honest and straightforward cooking, its website explains.

Entrees include lamb pappardelle (slow-braised lamb ragù, mint gremolata, pecorino cardamom and toasted almonds) and spicy shrimp bucatini (with San Marzano tomato sauce, parsley, olive-caper puttanesca, lemon zest and Calabrian chili). They are served up in the indoor/outdoor space that once housed the first restaurant Ciuffa opened in 1994.

The new addition has garnered rave reviews thus far, with a five-star rating out of 15 reviews on Yelp.

Ann C., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on July 22, wrote, "So glad Giuseppe is back in the village! One of my friends and I love to try new restaurants and tonight we went to Candor. We went to the happy hour and had a great experience."

And Emmett T. wrote, "For my entree, I picked the orecchiette ($19), which was made up of pork-fennel sausage sugo, roasted peppers and broccolini sprinkled with pecorino cheese and herb breadcrumbs. I really liked this pasta dish as the meat delivered the protein heaviness I was craving while the veggies and cheese were nice fillers."
