From taxes to zoning to public spending, the decisions made by your San Antonio City Council can have a major impact on your life. So we've scoured the upcoming agenda for the next meeting on Aug. 8 to bring you this report on what’s scheduled in local city government.

A major item on the forthcoming agenda is an ordinance to set the city's proposed maintenance and operations tax rate at 34.677 cents per $100 of taxable valuation and the city's proposed debt service tax rate at 21.150 cents per $100 of taxable valuation as recommended in the Fiscal Year 2020 proposed budget, with no increase in the city’s property tax rate.

The City Council is also set to approve contracts totaling $365,946 with Advanced Healthstyles Fitness Equipment Inc. for fitness equipment for SAPD substations, 24-7 Software Inc. for an incident management system for the Convention and Sports Facilities Department, Unifirst Corp. for work uniform rental and laundry service and Digital Markets Inc. dba Vista Com for the purchase and installation of logging recorders for the San Antonio Public Safety Radio System. 

Other agenda items include:

  • A resolution to annex a 150.26 acre property at 4526 South Loop 1604 as requested by the property owners, Halliburton Energy Services Inc.
  • A miscellaneous item to approve a joint use agreement with Cellco Partnership dba Verizon Wireless to allow access to the San Antonio International Airport for the installation and maintenance of the Distributed Antenna System at no cost.
