If you've got Mexican on the mind, a recent opening is need-to-know. The new addition downtown, called La Monjá Cantina, is located at 1028 Fremont St. in Ferguson's Motel.

La Monjá Cantina features several kinds of ceviche, including tuna, bass and scallop, and other options such as battered Baja fish tacos, roasted cabbage salad with almonds and quinoa with lentils. Entrees include grilled striped bass with salsa verde, leg of lamb braised in red chiles and grilled half chicken with red mole poblano. It also serves a variety of craft cocktails.

With a five-star rating out of five reviews on Yelp so far, La Monjá Cantina has already made a good impression.

Pam C., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on Sept. 7, wrote, "What an incredible cocktail menu. From their michelada with the house-made chili salt, to the Palomino, to the Flat Earth, to the Tijuana Zebra, there is something for everyone. As for food, the veggie empanadas were so good, we ordered them twice."

Yelper Lizeth S. added, “I experienced the best cooked, best tasting black beans I have ever had from a restaurant. ... The Palomino was my favorite cocktail. The balance, the flavor — oh, it was delicious."

Interested? Stop by to welcome the new business to the neighborhood. La Monjá Cantina is open from 11 a.m.–10 p.m. on Monday-Thursday, 11 a.m.–midnight on Friday, and 5 p.m.-midnight on Saturday. (It's closed on Sunday.)
