A new Filipino spot has made its debut in the neighborhood. The new arrival to Clifton, called Lola’s Kitchen, is located at 2240 Frankfort Ave.

Lola’s Kitchen, which has taken over the space of Chinese spot Zen Garden, offers a small selection of traditional Filipino dishes with a Southern influence, according to the Courier Journal.

The menu features chicken porridge in a ginger-based broth, fried milkfish and chicken-stuffed bun with pickled veggies. For dessert, look for shaved ice and egg custard.

The fresh addition has gotten off to an uneven start thus far, with a three-star rating out of 13 reviews on Yelp.

Brian L., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on September 11, wrote, "I ordered the beef kaldareta, a meat stew and for dessert I had the turon, fried banana rolls. My only complaint is that it's expensive for what you get."

And Tj P. wrote, "The lumpia, a spring roll, was good and the pineapple sweet and sour sauce was nearly as good as mom's."

Intrigued? Stop in to try it for yourself. Lola’s Kitchen is open from 11 a.m.–9 p.m. on Tuesday-Friday, 10 a.m.–9 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m.–2 p.m. on Sunday. (It's closed on Monday.)
