A new traditional American spot has debuted in the neighborhood. Called Watercolors, it's at 401 W. Ash St., on the northern edge of downtown San Diego.
Located within the recently opened Carte Hotel San Diego Downtown, the menu at the sea-to-table restaurant features hamachi crudo, rock shrimp, octopus and scallops. Its land-based entrees include steak, tandoori chicken and craft burgers.
Watercolors has proven popular thus far, with a 4.5-star rating out of three reviews on Yelp.
Denis N., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on Sept. 15, wrote, "Wow — the quality of steak and ceviche was incredible, [and the] octopus dish that my son ordered was was like nothing I ever tried before...my taste buds were very happy."
And Zabrina W. wrote, "Ordered the burger and truffle fries and rock shrimp to share. Out of the two I really enjoyed the burger. It had a buttery toasty bun and consisted of classic flavors. The cocktail was good as well, and very refreshing. The menu is simple and to the point."
Intrigued? Swing on by to take a peek for yourself: Watercolors is open from 7 a.m.–10 p.m. daily.
