The Bay Area's shelter-in-place order has brought countless events usually held as in-person gatherings online. We're aiming to support local businesses in San Francisco and Oakland by highlighting five of these events each day.

SF Bicycle Coalition Talks: Presidio Trust's Jean Fraser

Cycling enthusiasts can tune in over lunch as Brian Wiedenmeier, the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition's executive director, interviews Jean Fraser, CEO of the Presidio Trust.

Fraser, an avid cyclist and SFBC member, will discuss how she initially started biking for transportation, how she thinks biking relates to physical and environmental health, and the part the Presidio plays in San Francisco's cycling infrastructure.

In The Artist’s Studio: Yétundé Olagbaju

While the Museum of the African Diaspora's physical building remains closed, it's bringing art home through conversations with artists directly from their studios.

Today's guest is Oakland-based artist and maker Yétundé Olagbaju, who uses performance, sculpture, action, gesture, and performance as through-lines for inquiries regarding black labor, legacy and the processes of healing. Their work has been displayed at the Oakland Museum of California and Art Basel.

COVID Conversations: Biology of the Coronavirus

In this science-centric talk, Exploratorium scientist Jennifer Frazier, Ph.D. will interview Dr. Joseph DeRisi, a UCSF infectious disease specialist who uses new technologies to identify and understand viruses.

DeRisi, who helped identify the SARS virus in 2003, will talk about the biology and genome of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, and share insight into the large testing facility the Chan Zuckerberg Biohub (where he's co-president) created within weeks.

Acting Workshop: Introduction to Meisner with Anthony Montes

Want to improve your acting skills during shelter-in-place? Tune into this virtual Academy of Art University workshop conducted by Anthony Montes, who has been teaching the Meisner Technique for three decades.

Attendees will get to interact with Montes as he demonstrates the technique, which enables actors to "live truthfully under imaginary circumstances" and "get out of their heads."
