On June 15, 2023, a seemingly quiet evening in the parking lot of the Jack Holland Sr. Skate Park in unincorporated San Leandro (Ashland) was disrupted by a tragic and fatal shooting, according to a Facebook post from the Alameda County Sheriff's Office (ACSO).
The ACSO confirmed that deputies were detailed to the scene after receiving reports of shots fired from their Emergency Services Dispatch. Upon arrival, deputies found an adult male lying on the ground with a single gunshot wound to his chest. Although deputies attempted lifesaving measures, the victim ultimately succumbed to his injuries on the scene, a heartbreaking outcome, and another example of the growing dangers faced by residents in public spaces.
As the community reels from this tragic incident, detectives from the ACSO's Crimes Against Persons Unit are actively working on the case, aiming to determine the circumstances leading up to the shooting and develop information about possible suspects. The Coroner's Bureau is also collaborating with investigators to positively identify the victim, whose name has not yet been released.
The ACSO is urging anyone with information about the case, including video surveillance footage or recorded cell phone clips, to contact them at (510) 667-7721. Anonymous tips may also be provided by calling (510) 667-3622. With a united effort from the community in contributing potential evidence, the authorities hope to uncover the truth behind this violent episode and bring justice to the victim's family.
