San Jose experienced a lively boost back in May as the Urban Vibrancy Institute (UVI) hosted a successful block party in the city's historic district, showcasing local businesses and culturally diverse music and now, in yet another effort to uplift small businesses and community members, a second block party is planned for June 22, 2023, at the SoFA Market in downtown San Jose with a variety of live music featuring multiple bands, art, food, wine, and beer plus tours of new businesses all that designed to unite neighbors and communities, support local businesses, and help create vibrant spaces, according to UVI.
In a city that has recently struggled with vacant storefronts and dwindling foot traffic, large-scale events like these have the potential to make a positive impact on the downtown area, for one, the previous block party held in May attracted hundreds of residents and visitors and with more block parties planned, it aims to create a buzz in the city that was once sorely lacking, drawing attention to the local businesses at the forefront, as another San José Spotlight article also stated.

Moreover, these events are part of a larger revitalization effort for downtown San Jose which faces a high number of vacant storefronts, a whopping total of 73 sit unoccupied according to the San Jose Downtown Association but with community-focused approaches like these block parties supported by the Urban Vibrancy Institute, city officials and residents alike are hopeful for positive change as Eric Glader, the Executive Director of UVI, believes that hosting such events and bringing a critical mass of people downtown can lead to rediscovery and support for local businesses, revitalizing the downtown area once more, The Mercury News reported.
