Shocking Road Rage Incidents Unfold in Oakland: A Teacher's Car Shot and a Gun Brandished on VideoJoshua Wordel on Unsplash

In the span of just a few days, two shocking road rage incidents have occured in Oakland, leaving many residents concerned about the increasing levels of aggression on the streets. In one case, a fourth-grade teacher's car was shot during a road rage altercation, and in another, a dramatic incident involving a man brandishing a gun at a woman was captured on video

Reinette Siwa, a fourth-grade teacher in Hayward, was heading home when she experienced a terrifying encounter on the streets of Uptown Oakland. According to KTVU, Siwa said she didn't realize her car had been hit by a bullet until she arrived home just after 1 p.m. The incident had occurred earlier when a driver in an older, dark teal, 4-door Honda with tinted windows accused her of cutting him off on the highway and threatened to shoot her.

Siwa described her fear when the driver pulled up next to her at a stoplight, rolled down his window, and revealed a gun. Despite apologizing for any perceived wrong, Siwa said she saw the barrel of the gun and feared the worst. After attempting to drive away, she heard a single, quiet "pop" of gunfire. She later discovered that her new Hyundai Ionic 6 electric sedan had been struck by the shot, leaving her understandably shaken and fearful to return to work.

This incident comes mere days after another road rage altercation that took place in Oakland. In this instance, a man and a woman were caught in a heated confrontation that was captured on video. The footage, as reported by KRON4, shows the man approaching the woman's car and yelling at her before brandishing a gun and pointing it into the vehicle. The woman responds by opening the car door into him and slapping him in the face, leading to a physical struggle between the two.

The Oakland Police Department is investigating this alarming incident, which occurred in the area of Stanley Avenue and Truman Avenue. Officers arrived at the scene in response to reports of an individual armed with a firearm but were unable to locate the involved individuals. They have since been gathering additional information through potential witnesses.

As the Oakland Police Department continues to investigate both incidents, it is vital that those involved are identified and held accountable for their actions, with appropriate support and intervention provided. Siwa, the fourth-grade teacher, hopes that the man responsible for shooting her car can be apprehended and given the help he needs, saying, "It would be great if he would get caught and they would put him somewhere where he could get help."
