A fatal accident occurred early on this morning, on the southbound lanes of Interstate 15 in the Miramar area of San Diego. A 28-year-old Moreno Valley man was killed when his white Honda sedan veered off the roadway and slammed into a large freeway sign pole, as mentioned in a Fox 5 San Diego article. The accident took place just north of State Route 52 around 6:56 a.m., and the victim was ejected from the vehicle and declared dead at the scene, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
Officer Jesse Matias from the CHP stated that the exact cause of the crash is still under investigation. It has not yet been determined if drugs or alcohol played a role in the fatal accident. The San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office is currently awaiting results from a toxicology report.
The identity of the victim has not been publicly released, as authorities are in the process of notifying the deceased's next of kin. The dramatic accident impacted the freeway traffic, resulting in the closure of the number one lane for around two hours to allow for further investigation.
