Bay Area Buzz: Hard Jarritos 'Cantaritos' Sweep Liquor Stores Off Their FeetJarritos Instagram

For all you fans of Jarritos, the time has come for a slightly harder twist on your favorite tropical soda. That's right, Jarritos hard sodas, dubbed "Cantaritos," have arrived in selected San Francisco Bay Area liquor stores and are already flying off the shelves at an unbelievable pace.

According to VinePair, earlier this year, Jarritos distributor Novamex partnered with Anheuser-Busch for the launch of these new 5% ABV hard sodas. Fans in California and Texas initially got a taste of this collaboration with Cantaritos by Jarritos Hard Soda in an exclusive limited rollout starting in spring 2023, but now it seems the Bay Area has finally gotten its hands on the elusive cans.

The Tenderloin Liquor Grocery store, located at 62 Turk St. in San Francisco, is one such location. Owner Sammy Attayeb received a shipment of the product on Wednesday, and as the SF Standard reported, about five of the 15 total cases he received sold in just over one day for $5 a can. Attayeb plans to continue stocking Cantaritos and expects to have a regular supply available for customers starting next week.

It's worth noting that this swift Cantaritos craze can also be seen over on Instagram, where liquor stores in the East Bay area have been promoting the arrival of these highly sought-after beverages. The Queen of Sheba Market, with locations in Oakland and Berkeley, and the California Market in Oakland all announced on Wednesday that they had a limited supply of the coveted 25-ounce mandarin-flavored cans, and within just three hours, Queen of Sheba posted a story showing that half of their inventory had already been sold, with cans priced at $10 each.

As a proud ambassador of Mexican culture, Novamex is excited to expand the reach of their popular brands while also satisfying consumer demand for innovative creations through this collaboration with Anheuser-Busch. The name "Cantaritos" itself is a nod to the traditional Mexican cocktails served in small clay jars with tequila, fresh citrus juice, and grapefruit soda.

In line with the vibrant traditional Jarritos sodas, which come in 12 flavors such as guava, tamarind, and mandarin, the new Cantaritos are available in 12-bottle variety packs, six-bottle packs of mandarin and pineapple flavors, and 25-ounce cans of mandarin and pineapple flavors.

Unfortunately, not every store in the Bay Area has been able to get a hold of these popular hard sodas. The Vine, a liquor store located on the outskirts of the East Bay in Antioch, stocked Cantaritos back in early June after the owner drove to Southern California to buy some. Since then, however, the store has had trouble ordering cans from its distributors, with an employee telling the SF Standard that they might not be in for another couple of weeks, though customers have been eagerly asking.

As the Bay Area scrambles to keep up with the demand for these enticing beverages, Cantaritos by Jarritos Hard Sodas are not only sparking excitement among the locals but are also making a colorful splash in the world of alcoholic beverages. If you're in the San Francisco Bay Area and want to snag a can or two of these elusive Cantaritos, you'll have to act fast before they disappear from the shelves, at least for the time being.
