In an effort to crack down on impaired driving and maintain public safety, a single individual was arrested at a driving under the influence (DUI) checkpoint in Chula Vista on the night of July 16, 2023, according to FOX 5 San Diego. The Chula Vista Police Department conducted the operation from 6 p.m. to midnight at the 1200 block of Eastlake Parkway.
Over the course of the evening, 2,611 vehicles passed through the checkpoint, of which 709 were screened by officers, as reported by ABC 10 News. A total of six drivers underwent field sobriety tests, with one driver ultimately being arrested for allegedly operating under the influence of alcohol. The identity of the individual has not been disclosed.
Apart from the DUI arrest, authority figures noted that eight unlicensed or suspended license citations were handed out, and four vehicles were impounded during this checkpoint. The decision to hold the checkpoint in the 1200 block of Eastlake Parkway was based on historical data of impaired driving-related incidents in the area, as explained by the Chula Vista Police Department.
