Early this morning morning, a fatal collision occurred after a motorcyclists allegedly fled police and hit a vehicle on Silver Strand's State Route 75 at the Coronado Cays Boulevard intersection. As reported by the City of Coronado Police Department (CPD), the events leading up to the tragic accident remain under investigation by local authorities.
According to the Coronado Times, a traffic enforcement officer spotted the motorcyclist traveling at a high rate of speed in a northbound direction on State Route 75 just before 7 am. The officer attempted to stop the motorcyclist for the traffic violation, but the individual failed to yield and instead accelerated away from the officer. As the motorcyclist approached the Coronado Cays intersection, they violently collided with another vehicle crossing the intersection.
Recognizing the urgent need for medical attention, the traffic enforcement officer swiftly requested assistance and initiated life-saving first aid measures on the scene. However, despite all efforts, the motorcyclist succumbed to their injuries at the scene, as mentioned in the CPD's Facebook post. The incident was a poignant reminder of the potential risks and hazards that come with high-speed pursuits, especially for vulnerable individuals such as motorcyclists.
Fortunately, the driver of the vehicle struck by the motorcyclist did not sustain any injuries in the collision. In this tragic case, it seems that fate spared the lives of the vehicle's occupants while dealing a lethal blow to the motorcyclist.
