San Diego's upcoming Pride Festival isn't just celebrating the LGBTQ+ community but also promoting sustainability and inclusivity through a unique collaboration with local brewery Second Chance Beer Company, who are introducing an exclusive limited-edition craft beer called Pride Pilsner. According to Fox 5, the San Diego-based craft brewery will be exclusively offering the pilsner at this weekend's San Diego Pride Festival held on Saturday and Sunday at Balboa Park.
Virginia Morrison, Second Chance CEO and co-founder, has expressed her pride in being part of the special tradition of the San Diego Pride Festival, acknowledging the contagious and inspiring joy of the hundreds of thousands of people who celebrate it every year. Pride Pilsner will be available at several kiosks throughout the Marston Point festival grounds
It's worth noting that 100% of the proceeds from the sales of this special brew will be donated back to San Diego Pride, supporting the year-round philanthropic work and LGBTQ+ education programs. The plastic-free manufacturer Canworks is providing cans for the limited-edition beer, while Brewers Supply Group donated the ingredients, marking a conscious effort toward sustainability and reducing waste impact.
Second Chance Beer Company is actively promoting diversity and inclusion within the local craft brewing community. The company was instrumental in founding the San Diego Brewers Guild’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee in 2019, and Morrison currently serves as co-chair for the national Brewers Association's DEI committee (Beer Alien). Her efforts have been praised by Pride Executive Director Fernando Lopez, who remarked on the authenticity of Second Chance as a partner in supporting the LGBTQ+ community (Fox 5 San Diego).
In an interview with ABC 10News This Morning, Torie Berkel of Second Chance Beer and Mark Maddox of San Diego Pride discussed their collaboration to create an exclusive beer for the Pride Festival, emphasizing the direct benefits to Pride's education programs and philanthropic work. The San Diego Pride Festival, known for its stellar lineup of LGBTQ+ entertainment, cultural presentations, and community resources, is expected to attract a massive turnout. It kicks off with the Pride Parade on Saturday, with events running from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.
