San Jose has tragically marked its 25th traffic fatality for the year, as reported by the San Jose Police Department on July 11, 2023. This hit-and-run incident raises alarm among citizens as police continue to investigate the case.
On June 3, 2023, patrol Officers responded to Monterey Road and Curtner Avenue at approximately 11:58 PM, where a female bicyclist was struck by an unknown vehicle. The collision resulted in the bicyclist sustaining major injuries, prompting an investigation into this incident.
According to the San Jose Police Department, the unknown driver was traveling northbound on Monterey Road when they hit the adult female, who was cycling eastbound across Monterey Road outside any marked crosswalk. Instead of taking responsibility, the driver fled the scene.
The victim was initially transported to a local hospital for treatment, where she later stabilized and was transferred to a care facility. Tragically, she succumbed to her injuries on July 8, 2023, and was pronounced deceased. This marks the 25th fatal collision and the 26th traffic death for San Jose in 2023 alone, an alarming statistic for the city's residents and officials.
The Santa Clara County Coroner's Office will release the identity of the victim once they confirm her identity and notify next of kin. However, as of now, no further information is available regarding the suspect or their vehicle.
