A horrifying incident occurred when a man assaulted an elderly woman outside a grocery store in Hayward, leading to his arrest on elder abuse and hate crime charges, according to the City of Hayward's official website. Without warning or provocation, the man hit the woman across her face, causing her to fall, with the back of her head striking the concrete curb of the parking lot.

Officers reviewed surveillance footage from the area, and, having recognized the man from previous service calls, took immediate steps to pinpoint and arrest him.
The elderly victim, who is still recovering from the shock and physical trauma of the unwarranted attack, positively identified the assailant, as reported by The City of Hayward.
