A 10-year-old boy in Logan Heights named Je'mari Edwards was struck by a car while riding a bike with broken brakes. The accident occurred yesterday near the intersection of Ocean View Boulevard and 29th Street, and the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities, according to NBC San Diego.

Edwards was reportedly riding his friend Angel Velasco's bike at the time, who told Edwards to be cautious due to the lack of functioning brakes. However, despite the warning, the young bicyclist still suffered the unfortunate accident, leaving many to wonder whether the malfunctioning brakes played a significant role. San Diego Police Department has yet to confirm the exact reason the collision happened.

Upon impact, onlookers rushed to the scene to assist the traumatized child. Witnesses described Edwards as having cuts, scrapes, and bleeding heavily. Neighbor Shantelle Johnson recounted the challenging moments when trying to keep the injured boy in a safe and stationary position, telling NBC San Diego, "He was in shock, so you couldn't really hold him or reason with him, so I think we were all just trying to make sure we could keep him safe and in one place until the paramedics could get there."

Edwards was then transported to Rady Children's Hospital for treatment. Thankfully, his grandmother Bertha Richmond informed NBC San Diego that doctors notified the family that he had no broken bones or internal bleeding. Meanwhile, his good friend Angel expressed his hope for Je'mari's recovery in a touching statement to CBS8, saying, "I hope he heals, recovers, stays strong. He'll still be my best friend."

Following the accident, authorities confirmed that alcohol and drugs were not factors in the collision and that the victim suffered minor injuries, as stated in a FOX 5 San Diego report. It was also noted that Edwards was not wearing a helmet during the tragic incident.
