A 94-year-old Oakland woman's life was cruelly snuffed out in a harrowing hit-and-run incident that transpired on July 3, 2023, leaving her loved ones and the community in mourning. The yet-to-be-identified responsible is still at large prompting the Oakland Police Department (OPD) to request assistance from the public in a bid to solve the case.
The collision that resulted in the woman's untimely demise took place just before 7:00 PM near the intersection of 45th Avenue and Bancroft Avenue, where a Dodge Challenger was spotted careening through the area recklessly. According to OPD's statement, the driver failed to stop at the stop sign while traveling northbound on 45th Avenue and entered the intersection at a dangerously high speed. This disregard for safety led to the fateful collision with a Mercedes 220 occupied by the now-deceased woman and two other Oakland residents.
The aftermath of the crash saw the culpable driver swiftly exit the vehicle and attempt to quickly flee the scene, managing to evade grasp by authorities. However, the passenger accompanying the driver was apprehended on the spot and subsequently arrested for firearm possession charges. As reported by Hoodline, the elderly woman succumbed to her injuries on July 4th.
