Alameda County DA Charges Sex Offender with Assault and Hate Crime in Viral Oakland Road Rage Incidentmeganslaw.ca.gov

In a shocking road rage incident that took place on I-880 in Oakland, 61-year-old registered sex offender Tracy Robert Blackwell has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon, vandalism, and hate-crime enhancements by the Alameda County District Attorney. The charges stem from Blackwell's attempt to ram a woman's Kia with his Jeep along the highway while yelling racial slurs at her, according to KTVU's Henry K. Lee on Twitter.

The incident was captured in a viral video that circulated on social media showing Blackwell shouting racial slurs at another motorist before crashing his own vehicle on the East Bay highway, as reported by KTVU.

California Highway Patrol officials identified Blackwell and arrested him on May 16th, 2023 around 12 p.m. in Newark, following the circulation of the video on social media. Blackwell lost control of his Jeep after attempting to ram the other vehicle and crashed his car into a wall on the right shoulder of the freeway.

Blackwell is a registered sex offender, having been convicted in 2001 of lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14, as noted on the California Megan's Law Website
