A man was fatally shot near Lake Merritt BART station in Oakland. In a shocking turn of events, authorities have already arrested a suspect, identified as Juan Andres Martinez, 45, in connection with the crime, as reported on Henry Lee KTVU's Twitter.

The incident took place at 2:30 p.m. near Oak and Eighth streets, just outside the Lake Merritt BART station's entrance. Utilizing surveillance video, BART police were able to identify a suspect and conducted a search in the surrounding area, leading to the arrest within 90 minutes of the incident, according to SF Standard.

While the Lake Merritt BART station was temporarily closed during the investigation, normal train service resumed at around 3:10 p.m., after just a 40-minute interruption, as reported by ABC7 News. However, the station entrance near the crime scene remained closed for a more extended period as the police continued their investigations.

Interestingly, there is no indication that either the victim or the suspect was a BART rider. Oakland police assisted BART police during their inquiries but were also involved with another fatal shooting investigation that transpired around the same time near Oakland International Airport. This second shooting was not related to the Lake Merritt BART station incident, however.
