A daring burglary in Oakland early Thursday morning has left a 7-Eleven store with a vehicle smashed through its front window and door. According to NBC Bay Area, the Oakland Police Department responded to a report of a burglary on the 300 block of 23rd Avenue at around 3:55 a.m. and found a Hyundai crashed into the store's front window with merchandise scattered across the parking lot.
In a carefully executed plan, the criminals didn't act alone. ABC7 News reported that the incident involved six people in three vehicles, one of which was used to drive into the storefront, while the other two served as getaway cars, playing a vital role in the smash-and-grab scheme.
The Oakland Police Department announced that the burglars managed to steal a number of items from the store, but did not provide details on the nature of the stolen goods or their estimated value, as noted by KTVU. The suspects left behind the vehicle used in the crime, which was found at the scene by the police.
This incident is not the first of its kind - it follows a worrying trend of suspects using vehicles to ram into storefronts to gain access, grabbing merchandise, and speeding away. Authorities are urging anyone with information on this latest smash-and-grab case to contact the Oakland Police Department's Burglary Unit at (510) 238-3951.
