According to NBC Bay Area, the Oakland Police Department received a call reporting a person shot in the 600 block of High Street, just west of the Nimitz Freeway, shortly before 5 p.m. Officers arrived on the scene to find the victim lifeless and medical personnel later officially pronounced him deceased.

While details on the victim have yet to be released, a reporter for KTVU who was on the scene shared that the victim was male, evidenced by a bullet hole in a van parked nearby. Witnesses, understandably rattled, recalled hearing three to four gunshots, with one visibly distraught woman seen kneeling next to the male victim, as friends attempted to console her.

No further information has been provided by the police about the possible circumstances of the shooting or potential suspects. The investigation led officers to cordon off the area, and a nearby Shell gas station became a focus of their inquiries. However, authorities have not confirmed whether any suspects are in custody or provided any further information about possible motives behind the shooting.

Authorities have urged anyone with information about the fatal shooting to contact the Homicide Section at (510) 238-3821 or the TIP LINE at (510) 238-7950.
