A 4-alarm fire erupted at the historic Enean Theater in Pittsburg, creating chaos and a challenging scenario for the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District (Con Fire) firefighters, who responded swiftly to the emergency. The fire, initially reported on social media before 6 a.m. Saturday, was a formidable incident which eventually saw the intervention of several firefighting units.
The fire took place in the 300 block of East 10th Street, with flames engulfing the beloved Enean Theater – a building steeped in history since 1926. While no injuries were reported, the situation remained tense for the firefighters, as the risk of collapse prompted them to tackle the fire from a defensive standpoint, exclusively fighting the flames from the exterior.
This cautious approach was imperative due to the structure's weakened integrity, making it impossible for firefighters to enter the theater to battle the fire internally. Eventually, they managed to get the fire under control, as reported by the Con Fire PIO.
With several firefighting units engaged in initial emergency response efforts, some were released as the situation began to stabilize. Nevertheless, a number of these units remained on the scene for several more hours, monitoring the situation and ensuring the fire did not reignite. As this process continued, members of the public were urged to avoid the area, for their safety and to allow emergency responders unhindered access to the site.
