Over the next week, motorists on westbound Dublin Boulevard at Scarlett Drive may experience traffic delays due to ongoing construction surrounding the Iron Horse Trail Bridge. Amidst receiving sections of the future bridge for installation, lane closures will be required after 9:00 a.m. each day. Therefore, travelers along this route should consider alternate options during this time frame, as advised by the City of Dublin.
Originally established in 1986, the Iron Horse Regional Trail serves as a key route for pedestrians and bicyclists throughout central Alameda and Contra Costa Counties. The Trail, maintained by the East Bay Regional Park District, stretches through several cities, including Livermore, Pleasanton, Dublin, San Ramon, Danville, Alamo, Walnut Creek, and Concord. It also directly connects Dublin/Pleasanton and Pleasant Hill BART stations, improving public transportation access for those living along or near the trail. According to the City of Dublin, several existing bridges over busy roadways already bolster traffic flow and pedestrian/bicycle mobility.
The forthcoming Iron Horse Trail Bridge, a $14 million project, aims to create a safe crossing over Dublin Boulevard for those traversing the trail. Spanning 230 feet in length and reaching heights of 20 feet, the free-span bridge promises a grade-separated crossing for pedestrians and cyclists, enhancing both safety and traffic flow in the area. As reported by Patch, construction began in April 2022 and is expected to conclude by the end of this fall.
Notably, San Ramon has also begun construction on a similar bridge at the trail's intersection with Bollinger Canyon Road. As these projects near completion, residents and visitors alike can look forward to safer, more efficient pathways for pedestrians and cyclists throughout the region.
