The Fremont Police Department managed to arrest three juveniles suspected of driving stolen cars in a dramatic chase, according to a press release.
On August 9, 2023, the Fremont Police Department General Investigations Unit targeted the apprehension of individuals involved in the surge of car thefts in the area. The team successfully located a stolen vehicle driven by a juvenile accompanied by juvenile passengers, all in Fremont. Detectives attempted to follow the stolen vehicle and find a secure location to carry out the arrests. However, the juveniles escaped from the first stolen car and were observed boarding a second stolen vehicle almost immediately.
As reported in the press release, the Alameda County Sheriff's Office Air Unit offered assistance in maintaining surveillance of the second stolen vehicle while driving around Fremont, ultimately leading the detectives to a residence where the suspects retreated to. With a search warrant for the residence, Fremont Detectives managed to contact several individuals inside, including the three juvenile suspects observed driving the two stolen vehicles. Upon searching the property, the keys to the second stolen vehicle were discovered.
All three juveniles, residents of Fremont, were apprehended for Vehicle Code 10851(a) – taking a vehicle not their own with the intent to deprive the owner. Two of the suspects were issued notices to appear in court and released to the custody of their parents or guardians, while the third suspect was taken to Juvenile Hall.
The rise in vehicle thefts, especially targeting Kia and Hyundai brands, poses a major challenge for local law enforcement. Fremont Police Department's General Investigations Unit proactively focused on identifying and arresting those responsible in this instance.
As the investigation into the stolen vehicle case continues, any individuals with information related to the incident are encouraged to contact Detective Anthony Piol at 510-790-6900 or email [email protected].
