Earlier this month, on August 18, Boston Troopers Rudy Tryon and Thomas Shruhan were on patrol when they encountered a gray Ford Fusion with suspiciously dark window tint, suspected to be below the legal limit of 35%. A routine traffic stop took an unexpected turn, as troopers ultimately arrested two men after discovering a hidden firearm in their vehicle, according to a Massachusetts State Police report.
The troopers, who are assigned to the Troop H Community Action Team, followed the vehicle onto Route 93 northbound and executed a stop on the Exit 15B ramp. Upon approaching, they identified the driver as 29-year-old Freddy Suazo of Methuen and the passenger Carlos German, 37, of Lawrence. After confirming the window tint violation, troopers quickly found that Suazo did not possess a driver's license and consequently, called for a tow truck.
During an inventory of the vehicle, a large sum of money was found. Further inspection revealed signs of a potential "hide" - a secret compartment often used to conceal firearms, narcotics or other illicit items, as reported by Massachusetts State Police.
Upon closer examination of the hide, troopers discovered the muzzle of a firearm protruding. Unfortunately for the occupants, neither Suazo nor German were legally allowed to possess firearms, resulting in their arrests. A Smith & Wesson .45 caliber pistol was ultimately removed from the hidden compartment.
Both Suazo and German were transported to the South Boston Barracks for booking. A bail commissioner set bail at $10,000, which both men were able to post prior to being released. They have since been arraigned at the South Boston District Court on a number of charges.
Suazo was charged with illegal possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm without an FID (Firearm Identification) Card, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, illegal window tint, an equipment violation, and a state highway traffic violation. German was charged with illegal possession of a firearm and possession of a firearm without a FID Card.
