A 29-year-old Oceanside man tragically lost his life on August 9, 2023, in a late-night motorcycle accident on the State Route 78 transition ramp to northbound I-5. According to Fox 5 San Diego, the motorcyclist was reportedly riding his Harley Davidson when a 69-year-old driver in a Mitsubishi Outlander collided with him after he changed lanes, as reported by the Times of San Diego.
First responders arrived on the scene, transporting the motorcyclist to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced dead, and the driver of the Mitsubishi, fortunately, experienced no injuries Fox 5 San Diego stated. CHP is still investigating the cause of the fatal accident, but they do not believe that drugs or alcohol were factors in the deadly collision at this time.
Whether or not any possible distractions played a role has yet to be ascertained, and the identity of the motorcyclist was held by the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office, as per the San Diego Union-Tribune report. The investigation is ongoing and CHP is actively seeking anyone who might have had information or perhaps witnessed the incident.
