According to a video posted to Reddit on Sunday, an individual was driving along a San Diego-area freeway over the weekend when they noticed a motorcyle rider who was performing dangerous tricks at high speeds on the road. The video's caption states that the incident occurred Saturday afternoon and showed the motorcyclist pull the front wheel off of the ground to attempt to ride solely on the back wheel, in what is commonly known as a 'wheelie' or a 'wheelstand.'
The rider appeared to apply too much torque the bike, causing the maneuver to fail in an over-the-top vehicular accident. The already dangerous attempt put all others on the road at risk, too.
The maneuver is risky even in a controlled environment as it is accomplished when the rider applies significant torque to the rear wheel, keeping the rider relatively in place, bringing the front wheel up into the air. On a freeway, the dangers are multiplied, adding bumps in the road, rapid speed, and other drivers into the mix.
Comments on Reddit were unsurprisingly brutal, as well. One gave the standard, "Play stupid games, win stupid prizes." Another commented on the risks to innocent lives, "I'm just trying to take my small child to preschool and back, I'm not trying to risk injury or death to myself and my family dodging motocycle fragments."
Miraculously, it appears that the motorcycle rider was able to avoid major injuries, though Hoodline San Diego was unable to independently confirm this.
