Juan Sura-Martinez, the primary suspect behind the tragic homicide of Guillermo Kelly-Torres, has turned himself in to the Oakland Police Department (OPD) on August 24, 2023. The victim, Kelly-Torres, had been fatally shot just four days earlier, on August 20, 2023, in the 9200 block of E. Street in Oakland, California. According to OPD's official news release, Sura-Martinez willingly turned himself in and was duly taken into custody.

Delving further into the case, we learn that the OPD Communications Division had initially received reports of the shooting on that day, and upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered Kelly-Torres suffering from gunshot wounds. Medical personnel quickly arrived, attempting life-saving measures, but unfortunately, Kelly-Torres was pronounced deceased at the scene. OPD's news release states that investigators from the OPD Homicide Section were then called in to take charge of the inquiry into the crime's circumstances and the reasons behind Kelly-Torres' tragic death.

Within a few days of their investigations, the Alameda County District Attorney's Office charged Sura-Martinez with the crime.

For those who may have any valuable information concerning the case, the OPD urges individuals to contact the Homicide Section at (510) 238-3821 or the TIP LINE at 238-7950.
