Crowd Chaos in Emeryville Near Oakland: Police Search for Suspect in Stabbing of TeenagerEmeryville PD

A massive gathering of over 300 teenagers on August 27th, incited by a social media post, turned into a display of chaos and violence, illustrating the dangerous potential that can arise from unsupervised use of social platforms. What began as a seemingly innocent gathering to celebrate National Cinema Day quickly spiraled out of control.

According to a report by the Emeryville Police Department, officers were called to the Bay St. Mall after receiving reports of a large group of individuals causing a disturbance. The crowd of teenagers continued to grow, leading to a swift escalation of the situation. Additional smaller fights broke out as officers attempted to maintain the peace.

As reported by Hoodline, around 6:00 p.m., a gunshot was reportedly fired, albeit without injury. Shortly thereafter, a juvenile was stabbed near Elm Dr. and the victim was treated and transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Out of the hundreds of teenagers involved in the chaos, only one individual was arrested.

Emeryville PD detectives have obtained a picture of a person who may be involved in this stabbing and are requesting the public’s assistance in identifying them.

The events unfolded on National Cinema Day when movie tickets were being sold for just $4. The AMC Theater at Bay Street Mall, neighboring businesses, and attendees of the event were affected by the disturbance. A temporary closure of the theater and the relocation of guests were among the many repercussions.
