An accident took place near the San Diego Zoo Safari Park earlier today, resulting in life-threatening injuries for three individuals involved in the head-on crash. According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, the incident occurred shortly before 4:15 p.m. when an 18-year-old driver, who was heading west on San Pasqual Valley Road, lost control of his Honda Accord and crossed over a double yellow line, crashing head-on into an oncoming pickup truck.
The teen driver and two passengers in his car sustained life-threatening injuries in the accident, while the condition of the 54-year-old Dodge Ram truck driver remains unknown. San Diego Fire-Rescue, acting swiftly, dispatched a total of 55 personnel – paramedics, firefighters, and even a helicopter – to the scene to aid in the extrication and transport of the injured individuals from their vehicles.
An earlier Fox 5 San Diego article mentioned that six people were injured in a crash near the Safari Park on August 8, 2023, with four of them remaining in critical condition. In this accident, a total of 55 personnel were also dispatched to the scene alongside multiple rescue vehicles and a helicopter. The involvement of such extensive rescue teams occurring within a narrow timeframe begs the question of road safety in the vicinity of the San Diego Zoo Safari Park.
As of now, it has not been determined if drugs or alcohol were involved in the August 9 crash.
