On Thursday, a heartbreaking incident took place in a parking lot at the 5000 block of Mowry Ave in Fremont, where a 2-year-old juvenile was struck by a moving vehicle, according to a press release issued by the Fremont Police Department. The juvenile was treated on the scene by firefighters and paramedics before being transported to Eden Hospital where, tragically, the child succumbed to their injuries.
This marks Fremont's 7th fatal traffic collision in 2023, as reported by the press release.
The driver of the vehicle involved in the collision remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. The Fremont Police Traffic Unit has taken up the responsibility of investigating the unfortunate event. At this time, speed and impairment do not appear to be contributing factors in the accident. However, investigators are in the process of canvassing video surveillance footage captured from nearby sources to establish a clearer picture of what transpired.
